According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday, Pakistani-American IT/Tech entrepreneurs have reaffirmed to the government their desire to make investments in the nation’s IT sector.
Ayaz Sadiq, the minister for economic affairs, and Muhammad Ishaq Dar, the minister for finance and revenue, met virtually with well-known Pakistani-American IT/Tech entrepreneurs.
Along with other members of the Pakistani delegation, they were accompanied by Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Jameel Ahmed, and Ambassador Masood Khan.
Dar declared that the government’s first objective was to stabilise Pakistan’s economy. Dar was quoted in the statement as stating that the government has made difficult decisions in recent months that were necessary to set Pakistan on the path of economic recovery.
Dar believed that the devastating floods had made matters worse, but the government was optimistic that by implementing wise policies, the difficulties facing Pakistan’s economy would be resolved.
The enthusiasm of Pakistani-American tech entrepreneurs in developing Pakistan’s IT sector was recognised by the finance minister.
Dar stressed that this industry has great growth potential and could significantly boost Pakistan’s economy.
He claimed that the IT/Tech industry was receiving priority attention from the government and that Pakistan’s tech-savvy youth represented a vast resource that needed to be fully utilised for the sector’s expansion. The participants were given the assurance by the finance minister that the government will fully back their initiatives to help Pakistan achieve exponential development in its IT exports in the upcoming years.
The Pakistani-American IT/Tech entrepreneurs expressed appreciation for the government’s attention to the sector in their contributions and reiterated their desire to make investments in Pakistan.
They also provided a number of recommendations and initiatives to support the expansion of the IT sector, particularly Pakistani exports.
Dar reassured the group that their recommendations would be carefully considered for appropriate follow-up and asked them to continue working with the government to ensure that Pakistan’s IT sector grows vigorously and lives up to its promise.
