Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been called before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a contempt of court case today (Tuesday) after his response was deemed “unsatisfactory,” according to ARY News.
Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, was charged with contempt of court last Monday after using “intemperate, unparliamentary language” against the electoral body and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. On Monday, Khan submitted his response to the ECP.
Imran Khan’s response was filed with the ECP by attorneys Gohar and Chaudhry. Imran Khan had reservations about the function of the election body in his response.
Imran Khan didn’t make fun of the CEC or ECP, In his words, he just raised issues with the Election Commission’s function, the PTI head insisted in response.
Khan continued, calling the ECP’s notice “a violation of the Constitution,” adding that “ECP has no power to hear the cases, nor can the secretary electoral body send notices to party leaders.”
The ECP issued a show-cause notice to the PTI leader and ordered him to personally appear before the commission’s office on September 27 after describing his response as “unsatisfactory.” Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar, two PTI leaders, have also been called by the electoral authority on September 27.
