Prime Minister Shehbaz ready to work with Imran Khan to overcome devastation of floods

Premier said he wished to sit with Imran Khan and move ahead for relief efforts to bring the country out of this crisis.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his willingness to work with PTI chairman Imran Khan for providing relief to countrymen devastating by tormenting rains and floods.

PM Shehbaz stated this while talking to foreign journalists based in Islamabad on Aug 30. Premier said he wished to sit with Imran Khan and move ahead for relief efforts to bring the country out of this crisis.

“Let’s put together a united effort, let’s move with unity of thought and action, let’s move in unison,” Mr Sharif said in an unprecedented appeal to his predecessor.

The Prime Minister also interacted with several world leaders and expressed his gratitude for extending moral and financial aid to Pakistan to mitigate the sufferings of the flood-hit people.

Rains and floods have displaced 33 million people, claimed lives of 1100 people, swept away crops, thousands of cattle and paralysed social and economic life.

The PM ruled out vegetable imports from India to overcome shortages caused by devastating floods and said that both the countries must talk about the human rights situation in India-held Kashmir.

Mr Sharif, however, said a committee had been constituted to explore the possibility of importing vegetables and other food items, revealing the government was in talks with Russia for import of wheat. The committee has approved vegetables import from Afghanistan and Iran on urgent basis.
