chinese embassy supplies edible items to rain/flood-hit people in gwadar

China Overseas Ports Holding Company organized a supporting team comprising local employees and distributed essential consumer items amongst rain and flood affectees.

GWADAR: Pakistan is currently having heavy rains and snow in various cities and unfortunately 2,478 families hit by rains and floods in Gwadar.

In the first week of Jan. 2022, Gwadar witnessed heavy precipitation which resulted in a flood like situation. Many houses were collapsed, lives of local people threatened, and property severely damaged. The Baluchistan has government announced state of emergency and Gwadar was declared a ‘Calamity-Hit District’. 

In this situation, Chinese Embassy, together with the Chinese enterprises in Gwadar, took prompt action by collecting and distributing edible items to local families in order to get their lives back to normalcy. 

China Overseas Ports Holding Company organized a supporting team which consists of local employees. Amid the torrential rain, the support team continued their efforts by outreaching far-flung areas of the districts which have traditionally remained deprived and untouched. Such endeavors on the part of Chinese and the corresponding response from the Pakistani side, signalizes the deep-rooted strength of China-Pakistan ties. This is the first round of aid in this series.

However, in terms of humanitarian assistance, government of China has undertaken several steps in infrastructure reconstruction, medical and educational support and socio-economic development.

The affectees on receiving the package were very thankful to Chinese brothers and the Embassy for coming to their rescue in no time. The supporting hand China has lend to them is testament to China’s perpetual commitment to Pakistan.  Gwadar, have become flooded as heavy rainfall continues to pour in different areas of the province.

According to the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD), Gwadar recorded 57.2mm rain, with a thunderstorm in the district badly affecting the communication system. The PMD said more rain is expected in the district.
