Tehreek-i-Minhajul Quran annulled its annual mass aitkaf scheduled for this year in Lahore. Due to adverse national circumstances, the religious organization made the announcement on Tuesday, due to the current situation in the country and the wider region. Furthermore, the founder and Chief Patron, Dr Tahirul Qadri, explained the difficult decision clearly.
For 35 straight years, this gathering brought together thousandsโpeople from all over Pakistan and even from other countriesโwho came to spend those blessed last ten days of Ramadan in deep worship, listening to Dr Qadri’s talks, reciting Quran, and feeling that special sense of community. It was always one of the largest and most heartfelt aitkaf setups anywhere.
Additionally, Dr Qadri asked everyone to keep it simple and safe: please do your aitkaf at your local mosque or even at home if needed. He stressed that large crowds just aren’t practical or responsible given everything going on. The priority shifted to protecting people while still honoring the spirit of seclusion and closeness to Allah.
Decision Reflects Caution Over Security and Stability
Moreover, the organization recognized the importance of collective worship and reflection. Yet, leaders assessed the prevailing environment carefully before reaching this conclusion. They noted ongoing challenges both domestically and regionally that influenced the final call.
Supporters accepted the guidance respectfully. Many expressed understanding on social media and in community discussions. The move allowed individuals to continue their personal devotion without risking larger assemblies.
In recent years, mass aitkaf at the Minhaj-ul-Quran complex attracted diverse crowds seeking spiritual renewal. Participants engaged in prayers, Quran recitation, and lectures throughout the last ten days of Ramadan. Although the centralized event paused this time, the organization encouraged continued commitment to faith and unity.
Many are hoping next year brings calmer days so the full Itikaf City can come back stronger, with everyone together again. For now, focus on personal reflection, extra prayers, and staying connected in smaller ways. Ramadan still holds so much barakah.
