Two B7-Level Armored Vehicles to Be Procured
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has moved forward with plans to purchase two B7-level armored vehicles for judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The decision comes after the provincial cabinet approved the acquisition earlier this year. Now, the procurement process is officially underway.
A tender notice has been posted on the official website of the Peshawar High Court, inviting bids for the two vehicles. The notice outlines detailed specifications and sets the deadline for submission. Interested suppliers must submit their bids by February 4, 2026.
Each armored vehicle is estimated to cost between Rs. 150 million and Rs. 200 million. The high price is mainly due to the B7-level ballistic protection required for the vehicles.
Vehicles to Join Official Pool for Judgesโ Duties
Once purchased, the armored vehicles will be added to the High Courtโs official vehicle pool. According to current rules, High Court judges are entitled to two official vehicles, each with an engine capacity not exceeding 1,800cc. However, this procurement aims to enhance security measures for judges, especially during travel to sensitive districts.
The Peshawar High Courtโs Public Relations Officer confirmed that the new armored vehicles will be used for official duties. These include court proceedings, official visits, and travel to districts considered security-sensitive.
As part of the plan, the older vehicle currently being used by the High Court is expected to be retired from the official pool. The existing vehicles will be returned to the government after the new armored cars arrive.
B7 Protection Standard Explained
B7-level ballistic protection is the highest civilian armor standard available. It is designed to withstand extreme threats, including armor-piercing bullets, grenade blasts, and underbody explosions. This level of protection is often used for high-risk security situations and VIP transport.
Industry sources say that a standard 2026 model vehicle costs around Rs. 120 million before armoring. Once B7-level modifications are added, the price rises sharply. This explains the high estimated cost of each armored vehicle.
The procurement reflects ongoing concerns about judicial security in KP, where judges and legal officials sometimes face threats while carrying out their duties. The new vehicles aim to ensure that judges can perform their responsibilities safely and without disruption.
