The Punjab Traffic Police carried out a sweeping enforcement drive on November 27, issuing 40,000 challans in a single day under the province’s uniform traffic law. The large-scale operation targeted 11 major violations and resulted in hundreds of arrests, thousands of vehicle impoundments, and millions of rupees in fines.
Strict Crackdown Across the Province
Police recorded 5,034 helmet violations, issuing fines totaling Rs. 9,896,000. Officers also impounded 1,612 motorcycles and registered two FIRs, resulting in two arrests.
A strong crackdown on wrong-way driving led to 1,870 challans, Rs. 2,912,000 in fines, 595 vehicles impounded, 163 FIRs, and 153 arrests — one of the highest arrest counts of the day.
For dangerous passenger behaviour, such as riding on bus rooftops or hanging onto vehicles, police issued 630 challans. These violations brought Rs. 4,700,000 in fines, 216 impoundments, four FIRs, and four arrests.
Under unsafe vehicle enforcement, officers issued 812 challans with fines of Rs. 322,100, along with 222 impoundments, 20 FIRs, and 20 arrests.
Major Action Against Smoke-Emitting, Overloaded, and Unregistered Vehicles
Traffic police targeted over-dimensional and overloaded vehicles with 2,743 challans, collecting Rs. 1,059,100 in fines. They impounded 607 vehicles, lodged 24 FIRs, and arrested 23 drivers.
For missing or unauthorized number plates, 2,026 challans were issued along with Rs. 474,400 in fines, 477 impoundments, two FIRs, and two arrests.
One of the largest actions of the day involved smoke-emitting vehicles. Police issued 3,795 challans, imposed Rs. 7,650,000 in fines, impounded 985 vehicles, and filed one FIR, resulting in one arrest.
Officers also cited 1,512 juvenile drivers, collecting Rs. 488,300 in fines, impounding 453 vehicles, and making one arrest.
Driving without a license remained a major violation, with 6,131 challans issued. Authorities collected Rs. 1,905,700 in fines, impounded 1,126 vehicles, and registered 79 FIRs, leading to 79 arrests. Parking violations added 718 challans, along with 395 impoundments, 17 FIRs, and 17 arrests.
Police also took action against beggars, drug addicts, and vagrants — recording 10 impoundments, 10 FIRs, and 10 arrests. Another 14,630 challans were issued for various other offenses.
Province-Wide Totals
By the end of the single-day operation, the Punjab Traffic Police had collected Rs. 34 million in fines, impounded 6,690 vehicles, registered 324 FIRs, and arrested 314 individuals.
