Major Infrastructure Expansion Underway
RAWALPINDI: The cityโs infrastructure is set for a significant upgrade as authorities prepare to commence construction of three new underpasses by late November or early December. These underpasses will be built at key locations along Peshawar Road, including Qasim Market, Race Course, and Cheering Cross, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion.
Officials confirmed that the underpasses are part of a broader development plan, with a total estimated cost of Rs. 7.2 billion. The new additions will complement ongoing urban projects, easing commuting challenges for residents and boosting the cityโs overall transportation network.
Integration with Ongoing Projects
The development is closely linked to the Rs. 14 billion Kachehri Chowk project, which includes three flyovers, three underpasses, and road widening initiatives. Construction work on the Kachehri Chowk project is progressing rapidly, with both it and the newly approved underpasses targeting completion by June 2026.
City planners emphasized that these initiatives aim to modernize Rawalpindiโs road infrastructure, improve accessibility, and ensure smoother traffic movement, especially during peak hours. The combined projects are expected to significantly reduce travel times and enhance urban mobility across the city.
