The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Court has ordered Indian businessman BR Shetty to pay approximately $46 million following a major financial ruling. According to court findings, Shetty lied under oath regarding a personal guarantee for a $50 million loan obtained in 2018.
Justice Andrew Moran of the DIFC Court described Shetty’s testimony as “an incredible series of lies and contradictory claims.” The court’s verdict was based on detailed documentary evidence and verified photographs, including confirmed signatures of BR Shetty, which supported the allegations of dishonesty.
Court Imposes Heavy Financial Penalty and Daily Interest
In addition to the $46 million repayment order, the court imposed an annual interest rate of 9% until the full amount is repaid. This means BR Shetty must pay approximately $11,341 per day in interest alone until the debt is cleared. The ruling underscores the court’s firm stance on financial integrity and the consequences of providing false testimony in commercial disputes.
