Authority Intensifies Crackdown on Encroachments and Unauthorized Buildings in Rawalpindi
The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) intensified its ongoing anti-encroachment drive by demolishing an illegal hotel built in Rawalpindi, near the entrance of Al-Mumtaz Colony, opposite Gate 2 of the Gulraiz Housing Scheme. The operation targeted an unlawfully built property office and a hotel, both constructed without official approval.
Action Under Urban Development Laws
Officials confirmed that the operation was carried out under the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976, and the RDA Building and Zoning Regulations, 2021. The property owner had failed to obtain the required No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) before starting construction. Consequently, the RDA initiated swift action to ensure compliance with established laws and maintain the cityโs urban order.
Strict Orders from RDA Chief
RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza directed the Land Use and Building Control Wing to intensify efforts against encroachments and illegal residential or commercial structures. She emphasized that all unlawful constructions must face strict legal action to preserve planned urban development. Furthermore, she instructed officials to launch a comprehensive survey to evaluate commercialization fees, approval charges, and penalties associated with unauthorized structures.
Survey to Regularize Unauthorized Properties
According to the RDA, the detailed survey aims to identify and regularize all illegal constructions within its jurisdiction. Authorities will assess pending applications and calculate related fees for commercialization and building plan approvals. This initiative reflects the RDAโs commitment to ensuring fair regulation and effective city management.
Citizens Urged to Cooperate
Kinza Murtaza urged residents to cooperate with the RDA by voluntarily removing illegal encroachments and avoiding unauthorized construction. She warned that noncompliance would result in legal consequences and financial losses. Moreover, she reiterated that urban discipline and lawful development are essential for a sustainable and organized Rawalpindi.
