Gunship Helicopters Strike Terrorist Hideouts in Lower Kurram Amid Severe Civilian Hardships

Security forces have ramped up operations against terrorists in Lower Kurram, deploying gunship helicopters to target suspected hideouts. The ongoing two-day operation has disrupted daily life, with road closures leading to critically low food and medical supplies.

Key areas of focus include Bagan, Charkhel, Pistavani, and the Zarana mountains in Central Kurram, where gunship helicopters have been actively shelling suspected terrorist positions. While tribal elders have expressed support for the operation, they remain concerned about the adverse effects on civilians.

In a related development, authorities registered a case regarding a terrorist attack on a convoy carrying essential supplies to Parachinar. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Kurram Police has filed charges against 20 unidentified individuals under anti-terrorism laws.

The FIR, lodged by Lower Kurram SHO Ahmedi Shama Abdul Qadir, details that the attackers used heavy weapons to target the convoy, resulting in the deaths of two security personnel and injuries to five others. Following the ambush, the attackers burned vehicles, abducted eight drivers, and looted supplies with the involvement of up to 200 suspects.

Meanwhile, a tribal elders’ jirga, which had earlier set a three-day deadline for reopening blocked roads, has postponed its ultimatum. Citizens continue to face severe difficulties as essential supplies remain inaccessible, worsening the already dire situation in the region.
