Bajaur Peace Jirga
In light of rising unrest in the region, the Bajaur Peace Jirga has introduced strict measures to curb turmoil and ensure peace.
Among the key steps taken is a ban on unnecessary movement after 9 p.m., a decision aimed at restoring stability following a series of incidents that have escalated tensions in the area.
The jirga’s decision includes a controversial clause stating that if someone is killed after the 9 p.m. curfew, their blood will be considered forgiven, and no First Information Report (FIR) will be registered by the police.
“This decision had to be taken due to the severe unrest,” the organizers explained, emphasizing the need for drastic actions to address the current crisis.
Under the new rules, residents requiring movement between villages after the curfew must inform relevant parties in advance.
The jirga expressed its determination to maintain order, stating, “We cannot afford further unrest in Bajaur.”
To reinforce peace initiatives, a larger jirga involving political and tribal leaders from across the Malakand division is scheduled to convene on December 8 at Wadudi Hall.
This gathering will focus on broader measures to ensure stability in the region and address the underlying causes of the unrest.
The decisions, while supported by many as necessary steps for peace, have also sparked significant debate.
Critics have raised concerns over their legal and ethical implications, particularly the controversial clause regarding the forgiveness of bloodshed after curfew hours.
Despite differing opinions, the situation in Bajaur remains precarious, with local leaders striving to find solutions to the ongoing challenges.
The upcoming jirga is expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of peace efforts in the area, as stakeholders work together to bring stability to the troubled region.
