Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Islamabad on Monday for a three-day official state visit. He was warmly received at Nur Khan Airbase by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, President Lukashenko is scheduled to hold in-depth discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on various areas of bilateral cooperation. During the visit, several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed.
Ahead of President Lukashenko’s arrival, a high-level Belarusian delegation, consisting of 68 members, reached Islamabad on Sunday. The delegation includes Belarus’ foreign minister, ministers for energy, justice, transport, natural resources, and emergency situations, along with the chairman of the Military Industry Committee. Additionally, 43 leading Belarusian business figures are part of the delegation.
The visit comes at a time of heightened security in Islamabad, with the city on alert due to the PTI’s final protest call. Authorities have sealed off the Red Zone, which contains key government buildings and the Diplomatic Enclave.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who welcomed the advance delegation on Sunday, emphasized that strict measures would be taken against protesters attempting to enter the capital. Addressing a press conference, Naqvi stated that the security measures were implemented to ensure the safety of Islamabad’s residents and their property, accusing PTI of causing disruptions for thousands of citizens.
