Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has urged for a national dialogue to resolve the ongoing political crisis as tensions rise between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the government. PTI convoys from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, now in Punjab, are heading toward Islamabad, demanding the release of their founder, Imran Khan, and addressing other grievances.
The government has placed containers across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, causing widespread disruption not only in these twin cities but also across Punjab. JI senior leader Liaqat Baloch emphasized that persistent political instability is alienating the public from politics.
Baloch criticized both the ruling coalition and opposition parties, claiming their governance and protest strategies have failed to inspire public trust. He noted that the opposition’s demonstrations are worsening economic challenges and urged the government to focus on political resolutions rather than lamenting economic losses.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that the opposition protests are causing daily economic losses of Rs190 billion due to road closures and shutdowns.
Separately, Baloch urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to prioritize peace in Parachinar amidst escalating violence in the Kurram district. Tribal clashes, which resurfaced last week, have claimed over 70 lives, with recent attacks on civilian convoys leaving 44 dead. The region remains marred by instability, with urgent measures required to restore order.
