PML(N) shows concern over a potential serious intervention if Trump tried to support PTI

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khurram Dastgir on Sunday expressed concern over a potential “serious intervention” if US President-elect Donald Trump were to support the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Speaking on a TV show, Dastgir criticized the PTI founder, claiming, “The PTI leader released Taliban commanders under US instructions in 2018.”

He added that, following its withdrawal from Afghanistan, the United States has significantly reduced its focus on Pakistan.

Reflecting on Trump’s past statements, Dastgir noted, “After his election in 2016, Trump referred to Pakistan as a great country and praised Nawaz Sharif as a great leader.” He emphasized that “Receiving a phone call from the US president is not our aim or objective; wherever issues arise, both countries can engage in discussions.”

‘US won’t interfere in Pakistan’s internal affairs,’ says Khawaja Asif

Recently, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also addressed the topic, affirming that the United States would not interfere in Pakistan’s internal matters.

In an appearance on Samaa TV, Asif criticized the PTI, saying, “Some are spreading rumors that President-elect Donald Trump might intervene to support their leader [PTI founder].”

“There is no likelihood of US pressure regarding the PTI leader,” he stated, and added that Nawaz Sharif has never bowed to US influence. “Pakistan seeks balanced relations with the United States,” Asif concluded.
