Federal Government Announces Major Salary and Housing Allowance Increases for High Court Judges. The federal government has approved substantial increases in the salaries and housing allowances for High Court judges, according to a recent notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Signed by Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, the notification details a significant hike in the house rent allowance for High Court judges, which has been raised from Rs 65,000 to Rs 350,000. Furthermore, the superior judicial allowance has been increased from Rs 342,431 to Rs 1,090,000.
In addition to these salary adjustments, the notification directs High Courts to establish a policy concerning the use of official vehicles, covering aspects such as fuel, maintenance, drivers, and inter-bench travel.
With these changes, sources suggest that the total monthly salary of a High Court judge is now expected to surpass Rs 2 million.
The increase follows a request from the Islamabad High Court to the Ministry of Law and Justice, citing the steep rise in rental costs in the capital over recent years as the reason for the need to revise judges’ housing allowances.
