31 MLAs Submit Formal Request to CM Bhajan Lal Sharma; Decision Expected Soon
The Rajasthan government is currently reviewing a proposal to designate cows as ‘Raj Mata’ (Mother of State) following a formal request from 31 MLAs, including BJP Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg and fellow BJP members Gopal Sharma and Balmukund Acharya.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has confirmed receipt of the letter and stated that the matter is under consideration. This proposal arises two months after the initiation of the ‘Gau Dhwaj’ movement in Jaipur, which aimed to elevate the status of cows at the state level.
Agriculture Minister Zora Ram Kumarawat pointed to a similar recognition granted to cows in Maharashtra. Additionally, the state government has recently banned the term ‘stray cow,’ proposing alternative phrases like ‘helpless’ instead.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot has criticized the proposal, noting that the previous Congress government had allocated funds for cow welfare. He expressed concerns that the initiative could adversely affect the livelihoods of meat traders and local businesses.
The proposal has sparked discussions about its economic implications, particularly regarding its potential impact on various sectors of local commerce and trade in Rajasthan.
