Hezbollah has not officially confirmed or denied Israel’s assertions regarding the death of Hashem Safiuddin, the group’s anticipated leader, in an airstrike in Beirut.
According to the Israeli military, their air force targeted Safiuddin, a senior Hezbollah figure, during strikes on Lebanon’s capital, as reported by the American news site Axios. Safiuddin was believed to be poised to succeed Syed Hassan Nasrallah as Hezbollah’s Secretary General.
An Israeli official mentioned that Safiuddin was located in a deep underground bunker, leaving uncertainty about whether he was killed in the attack.
While Hezbollah has yet to provide an official response, witnesses reported explosions near the airport and smoke rising from the area. Additionally, Israel has claimed responsibility for the death of Mohammed Youssef Anisi, another Hezbollah leader.
