China extends an invitation to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for a state visit

Chinese envoy in Islamabad meets with Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. On Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong engaged with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation between China and Pakistan, particularly in technology, business, and investment.

During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif highlighted the strong ties between Pakistan and China, describing China as a reliable friend and expressing pride in their deep relationship. “We are proud of our partnership with this great nation,” he stated, adding that Punjab is eager to collaborate with China, especially in infrastructure and technology.

Maryam Nawaz articulated her vision for economic cooperation with China, saying, “We can create economic miracles together.” She emphasized Punjab’s openness to Chinese investment and announced plans to establish special “Chinese Economic Zones” that would offer exclusive facilities and privileges to Chinese businesses. She also praised China’s model for poverty alleviation, noting its potential benefits for Pakistan.

Ambassador Jiang Zedong commended Maryam Nawaz for her welfare initiatives in Punjab, such as the Nexan Card and Tractor Scheme, aimed at supporting the agricultural sector. He confirmed China’s readiness to invest in Punjab’s agriculture and announced training for 1,000 Pakistani farmers by Chinese experts in modern farming techniques. The ambassador underscored China’s commitment to its friendship with Pakistan and highlighted the advancements in bilateral relations during PML-N’s governance.

“China will warmly welcome Punjab’s inclusion in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” said Jiang Zedong. He also extended an invitation for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to visit China, an honor she graciously accepted, marking her as the first female Chief Minister of Pakistan to receive such an invitation.

Both sides expressed optimism for the future of China-Pakistan relations, with Nawaz Sharif recalling the successes of his previous government, during which, according to the ambassador, ties between the two countries reached unprecedented heights.
