NA approved bill to amend National University of Technology Act of 2018

On Monday, the National Assembly passed the National University of Technology (Amendment) Bill, aiming to modify the National University of Technology Act, 2018, as reported.

The bill, introduced by the Minister for Science and Technology, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, addresses necessary updates to the original legislation.

Established through an Act of Parliament in 2018, the National University of Technology (NUTECH) was founded to advance and promote both existing and emerging technologies. The university’s primary goal is to develop a skilled workforce capable of driving industrial growth and enhancing the country’s economy.

NUTECH focuses on integrating science, engineering, and technology to cultivate industry leaders, technopreneurs, and a technically proficient workforce.

Its academic and research programs are designed to foster knowledge across multidisciplinary sciences and emerging technologies, necessitating robust undergraduate and graduate studies in these areas.

However, during its operation, a discrepancy was identified in the NUTECH Act.

Specifically, a comma was missing in Section 4, Subsection (1) after the word “engineering,” and the word “creating” was absent after the phrase “capable of.”

The amendment bill addresses these errors by inserting the missing comma and the additional word to ensure the Act aligns with the university’s mandate and legal framework.

This correction will provide the necessary legal support for NUTECH’s objectives and ensure the Act accurately reflects the university’s mission and operational requirements.
