The Punjab Food Authority has amended its laws to combat the practice of food adulteration.
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has designated food adulteration as a non-bailable offense under newly amended laws.
At a meeting chaired by PFA Director General Asim Javed, the new regulations were announced. Javed, who also serves as the Registrar of the Punjab Halal Development Agency, underscored the necessity of Halal certification for all food products.
The revised regulations now mandate that every food item must display a Halal certificate and the Halal logo on the finished product. Non-compliance will result in severe penalties under Article 17, including the potential closure of businesses for up to six months for repeated violations.
“The Punjab government is also working on recommendations for the establishment of the Punjab Halal Development Agency to further enforce these regulations,” Javed said.
He emphasized the commitment to upholding food safety standards and warned that stringent legal actions, including the registration of non-bailable cases, will be pursued against those involved in food adulteration.
