Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, has firmly refuted any intentions of seeking an extension to his tenure.
In a recent media briefing following the full court reference marking the beginning of the new judicial year, Justice Isa addressed rumors surrounding possible extensions for judges.
The speculation was fueled by a statement from Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, who had suggested that all judges should be given extensions.
In response, Justice Isa challenged Sanaullah to present the matter directly to him for discussion, emphasizing that such claims were unfounded.
Justice Isa elaborated on a recent meeting he attended with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and the Attorney General. He clarified that Rana Sanaullah was not part of this discussion.
During the meeting, the Law Minister had mentioned that several Chief Justices were seeking extensions. However, Justice Isa made it clear that he would not accept an extension, regardless of what others decided.
Justice Isa further underscored his stance by stating his uncertainty about the future, saying, “I don’t even know if I will be alive tomorrow.”
His comments reflect a personal and professional commitment to serving his term without seeking any extension, dismissing the notion that he had any such intentions.
This strong denial aims to put to rest any ongoing speculation and reaffirm Justice Isa’s position on the matter.
By addressing the issue head-on, he has sought to clarify his stance and distance himself from the extension debate, focusing instead on his current role and responsibilities.
