Students from 3,527 schools across Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Muzaffargarh will benefit from a new initiative as Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the province’s largest and first school nutrition program at the Government Primary School MC-1 in Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday.
During the event, Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally distributed milk packets to students and ensured that each packet was consumed under her supervision. She engaged with the students, asking for their names, offering congratulations, and inquiring about any issues they faced with their studies.
One student shared that his father was unemployed, prompting the Chief Minister to immediately request assistance in finding employment for the student’s father.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat provided an overview of the pilot program, which will roll out in DG Khan, Rajanpur, and Muzaffargarh. The initiative aims to address food insecurity by providing 175 ml of nutritious milk daily to 400,000 students.
As part of the program, students will return empty milk cartons to their schools, where the proceeds from recycling will be reinvested into school resources.
Students took the opportunity to take pictures with Maryam Nawaz Sharif and obtain her autograph. The Chief Minister was warmly welcomed by Border Military Police upon her arrival at the DG Khan Commissioner’s Office. Also in attendance were Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bukhari, Provincial Minister for Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, MPAs Saniya Ashiq, Nosheen Adnan, and Sher Ali Gorchani, along with Special Assistant Zeeshan Malik, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhter Zaman, Secretary Schools, Commissioner, RPO, and other dignitaries.
