For the past 12 years, Hori has managed to function on just 30 to 45 minutes of sleep per night.

He asserts that this extreme reduction in sleep has not only enhanced his productivity but has also allowed him to lead a more active and fulfilling life.

Hori, who resides in Hyogo prefecture, embarked on this unconventional sleep regimen over a decade ago with the goal of maximizing his waking hours.

His approach to sleep focuses on quality rather than quantity, a philosophy he believes is essential for those who require sustained mental focus and efficiency, such as medical professionals and first responders.

According to Hori, individuals in these high-demand roles can maintain peak performance even with significantly shorter periods of rest.

To counteract the effects of minimal sleep, Hori combines rigorous physical exercise with caffeine consumption.

He emphasizes that engaging in exercise or consuming coffee an hour before eating helps him stay awake and alert throughout his extended 23.5-hour days.

This regimen, he argues, enables him to avoid feelings of drowsiness and maintain a high level of productivity.

Hori’s unique lifestyle was recently featured on the Japanese reality television show “Will You Go With Me?” where audiences observed him waking up refreshed and energized after just 26 minutes of sleep.

Following this brief rest, he proceeded to engage in a full day of work and recorded an intense workout session, showcasing the effectiveness of his sleep strategy.

In addition to his personal achievements, Hori established the Japan Short Sleepers Training Association in 2016.

Through this organization, he claims to have trained over 2,100 individuals to adopt and thrive on ultra-short sleep schedules.

His efforts reflect a broader ambition to teach others how to maximize their waking hours through reduced sleep.

Despite Hori’s compelling claims and the apparent success he has experienced, experts caution against adopting such an extreme sleep pattern.

Sleep is a critical component of both physical and mental health, and prolonged sleep deprivation can lead to severe negative consequences.

Medical professionals and sleep researchers stress that adequate rest is essential for overall well-being and that Hori’s approach, while intriguing, may not be advisable for the general population.
