The legal wing of the Election Commission of Pakistan has recommended delaying the implementation of decisions related to reserved seats until the detailed verdict is issued.
Sources indicate that the legal experts within the ECP have identified ‘ambiguities’ in the current decision, prompting caution in its execution. However, the final decision rests with the approval of the full ECP body.
Meanwhile, amidst these developments, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taken proactive steps by submitting a list containing the names of 38 independent Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to the ECP.
This submission follows the recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding the allocation of reserved seats. A representative from PTI formally presented the list along with supplementary documentation to the ECP.
Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that while most procedures have been completed swiftly, the affidavits of three independent MNAs—Sahibzada Mahboob Sultan, Mubeen Arif, and Riaz Fatiana—are pending submission due to their current overseas engagements. PTI insiders have assured that the necessary affiliation forms for these MNAs will be promptly submitted today.
This sequence of events underscores the meticulous approach being taken by both the ECP and political parties like PTI in adhering to legal protocols and ensuring compliance with recent judicial directives.
As the situation evolves, all eyes remain on the ECP’s forthcoming decisions and the resolution of outstanding procedural matters.
