Israeli-Gaza Conflict
Hamas has announced a significant increase in its military strength, stating that it has recruited thousands of new fighters and enhanced its capabilities amidst a fierce Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas’ armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, delivered this message in a recorded address on Sunday, detailing the group’s efforts during the conflict.
“We have successfully enlisted thousands of new fighters during this war, rehabilitated crucial military assets, established ambushes, manufactured explosives and shells, and repurposed leftover Israeli munitions,” Ubaida declared.
He emphasized the extensive geographical span of their resistance efforts, spanning from Beit Hanoun in the north to Rafah in the south over nine months of conflict.
Ubaida criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of attempting to mask his failure to achieve a definitive victory in Gaza.
“It is now evident to you and the entire world that Netanyahu’s claim of an absolute victory is merely a facade to eliminate political opponents and maintain power, at the cost of sacrificing your sons,” he asserted, addressing the Israeli public and military families directly.
The ongoing Israeli offensive, initiated following an October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, has drawn international condemnation for its relentless severity.
According to local health authorities, more than 38,150 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed, with over 87,800 others injured since the conflict’s onset.
Gaza, now nine months into the conflict, remains in ruins, compounded by severe shortages of essential resources such as food, clean water, and medical supplies due to the longstanding blockade.
Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, with recent rulings demanding an immediate cessation of military operations in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge before Israeli forces intervened on May 6.
The situation continues to evolve amidst global calls for ceasefire and humanitarian aid to alleviate the dire conditions in Gaza.
