Lahore Traffic Police Issued 2.8 Million Violation Tickets in 2024

In the first half of 2024, the Lahore traffic police issued 2.8 million tickets for traffic violations, as reported on Thursday.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Amara Athar, highlighted that the most frequent infractions were lane and stop line violations, accounting for 800,000 tickets. Additionally, 220,000 motorcyclists were fined for not wearing helmets.

Amara Athar also mentioned that 274,000 tickets were issued to individuals driving vehicles or motorcycles without a valid license. Furthermore, 143,390 drivers were penalized for using vehicles with “applied for registration” (AFR) plates or no number plates at all.

On June 22, Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, stated that traffic police offices across all districts in the province were providing driving licenses and other services to citizens.

A Punjab Police spokesperson released a one-day performance report of the Punjab Traffic Police, revealing that 1,340 driving licenses were issued throughout the province, including Lahore, on the previous day. Legal action was taken against 13 vehicles emitting excessive smoke, with two vehicles being impounded for pollution-related offenses. In total, 4,150 vehicles were fined for traffic violations, contributing Rs2.5 million to the national treasury.

Since the commencement of a special campaign on February 26, over 1.43 million driving licenses have been issued. Actions were taken against more than 24,600 vehicles causing pollution, resulting in 6,688 vehicles being impounded. For various traffic violations, over 3.248 million vehicles were fined, and a total of Rs1.72 billion has been deposited into the national treasury.
