An 80-year-old man has been arrested in Dera Ghazi Khan after authorities uncovered the alleged marriage of an 11-year-old girl who was reportedly sold for Rs1.5 million, officials said.
The incident took place in the tribal area of Phagla, where authorities have launched an investigation into the alleged child marriage. The case has drawn serious attention after allegations emerged that the girl’s father sold her before arranging the marriage.
Authorities Launch Investigation
Border Military Police Chief Commandant Ameer Taimur Khan took immediate notice of the incident after receiving reports about the alleged marriage.
According to officials, the elderly man allegedly purchased the minor girl before the marriage took place. Authorities also alleged that the girl’s father accepted Rs1.5 million in exchange for the child.
Following the initial investigation, law enforcement officers arrested the 80-year-old groom. However, efforts are continuing to apprehend the remaining suspects linked to the case.
Action Against Marriage Registrar
Authorities have also initiated legal action against the nikah registrar for allegedly solemnising the marriage of a minor.
Officials said the investigation aims to determine the role of every individual involved in arranging and facilitating the marriage. They added that no one found responsible would be exempt from legal action.
Meanwhile, investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction and the marriage process. They are also collecting evidence to establish the involvement of all accused persons.
Search Continues for Other Suspects
Law enforcement agencies confirmed that raids are underway to arrest the remaining suspects connected to the case.
Officials reiterated that the investigation remains active and that further action will follow as more evidence becomes available.
