China will provide digital skills training to 300,000 Pakistani youths every year, according to Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal. The initiative aims to strengthen Pakistan’s technology sector and support the growth of the country’s digital economy.
Ahsan Iqbal announced the development while speaking at the 3rd LCCI IT Freelancing Awards 2026, organized by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
He highlighted Pakistan’s growing position in the global freelancing industry. According to the minister, Pakistan has become the world’s fourth-largest freelancing country, with young professionals contributing significantly to digital exports and foreign exchange earnings.
Digital Skills Become Key to Economic Growth
Ahsan Iqbal said modern economic success depends less on traditional business models and more on knowledge, technical skills, and access to digital platforms.
He emphasized that skilled youth can create new opportunities through technology-based work. Moreover, digital expertise can help Pakistan increase exports and compete in the international market.
The minister believes that expanding digital training programs will prepare young Pakistanis for future employment opportunities. The partnership with China is expected to provide advanced learning opportunities in various technology fields.
Pakistan Focuses on AI and Freelancing Growth
LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol encouraged IT professionals and freelancers to adopt artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. He stated that innovation will help Pakistani professionals maintain their position in the competitive global market.
Furthermore, he said cooperation between the government and private sector can help transform Pakistan into a regional digital economy hub under the Uraan Pakistan vision.
Punjab Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman also highlighted the importance of freelancing in Pakistan’s economy. He said freelancers contribute millions of dollars in foreign exchange every year.
Punjab Expands Digital Infrastructure and Technology Projects
Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman explained that the Punjab government is working with federal authorities and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). The collaboration aims to resolve international payment issues faced by freelancers.
Additionally, the province is investing in digital infrastructure, technology parks, IT zones, and innovation centers. These projects aim to create better opportunities for technology professionals.
