Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay emerged as the biggest winner at the Primetime Emmy Awards, collecting six honours during Monday’s ceremony.
The comedy-horror series follows a cursed New England town and secured the comedy prize over the final season of Hacks.
Meanwhile, medical drama The Pitt claimed the best drama award for the second consecutive year.
Jean Smart Makes Emmy History
Hacks star Jean Smart won her fifth Emmy for playing stand-up comedian Deborah Vance.
Her latest victory also created a new milestone. Smart became the first performer to win the best comedy actress award for every season of a show’s run.
“What a ride this has been!” Smart said while accepting the honour and thanking the creators of the HBO Max series.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus remains the closest performer to Smart’s achievement. She won best comedy actress six times during Veep’s seven-season run.
Matthew Rhys also made history during the ceremony. He became the first person to win two lead acting honours at the same Emmy ceremony.
Rhys won best comedy actor for Widow’s Bay and best actor in a limited series for Netflix’s The Beast in Me.
The Pitt Wins Best Drama
The Pitt secured its second straight Emmy for best drama.
Noah Wyle also collected his second consecutive Emmy for portraying Dr “Robby” Robinavitch in the medical series.
The actor described the achievement as “overwhelming” and reflected on his long connection with Hollywood.
“This is the only club I’ve ever wanted to join. Thank you for accepting me,” Wyle told the audience.
Other Major Emmy Winners
Stephen Root delivered an upset by beating favourite Harrison Ford for best supporting actor in a comedy.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which ended its CBS run this year, won best variety series.
The murder mystery DTF St. Louis took home the award for best limited series.
Rhea Seehorn won best drama actress for her role in Apple TV’s Pluribus. It marked her first Emmy victory.
Addressing fellow nominees Keri Russell and Zendaya, Seehorn quoted feminist activist Gloria Steinem.
“We are linked, not ranked. I feel that way about all you women,” Seehorn said.
Michael J. Fox Honoured
The Television Academy also honoured Michael J. Fox for his humanitarian work and advocacy for Parkinson’s disease research.
Fox appeared at the ceremony in a wheelchair and spoke about continuing his acting career after his diagnosis.
“It’s because you stood up for me,” he told the audience while reflecting on Hollywood’s support.
Mariska Hargitay hosted the ceremony, becoming one of the few actors from a long-running drama to take on the role.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star also brought her character Olivia Benson into a pre-recorded sketch involving Taylor Swift.
Swift appeared as a rookie detective in the segment. The sketch ultimately explained her absence from the ceremony.
The 2026 Emmys combined major acting milestones, returning winners and first-time honours. The ceremony also highlighted the strong competition across television’s leading genres.
