England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has entered T20 cricket history after becoming the first player to reach 15,000 runs in the format.
Buttler achieved the landmark during England’s second T20 International against Sri Lanka in Cardiff.
Buttler Surpasses Kieron Pollard
The England star reached the milestone with a single off Eshan Malinga.
With that run, Buttler moved past former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard to become the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket.
Buttler has now scored 15,000 runs in 528 matches at an average of 35.46.
He has maintained an impressive strike rate of 147.46 throughout his T20 career. His record also includes nine centuries and 107 half-centuries.
Pollard Drops to Second
Before Buttler’s achievement, Pollard held the record as T20 cricket’s leading run-scorer.
The West Indies all-rounder finished his T20 career with 14,999 runs in 754 matches.
Buttler’s milestone therefore came with a narrow one-run advantage over the former record holder.
The achievement further underlines Buttler’s consistency across domestic and international T20 competitions.
Alex Hales and Chris Gayle Follow
England’s Alex Hales currently occupies third place among T20 cricket’s highest run-scorers.
Hales has accumulated 14,581 runs in 537 matches.
West Indies legend Chris Gayle follows closely behind with 14,562 runs in 463 matches.
Meanwhile, Australia’s David Warner completes the top five. Warner has scored 14,284 runs in 439 matches.
Buttler’s latest milestone adds another major achievement to his T20 career. His combination of consistency, power hitting and longevity has now taken him beyond every other batter in the format’s run-scoring charts.
