Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed President Asif Ali Zardari on the recently signed defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
Shehbaz met President Zardari on Friday and discussed the agreement during the meeting. The Presidency confirmed the development in an official statement.
President Zardari expressed his best wishes for effectively implementing the tripartite defence agreement. He highlighted its potential role in strengthening regional peace, stability, and security.
Pact Aims to Strengthen Regional Security
Zardari also praised Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir for strengthening relations with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
He said the countries should transform their longstanding ties into a stronger strategic partnership. The agreement seeks greater cooperation on defence and regional security.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye signed the agreement in Makkah on August 7. The pact aims to strengthen collective deterrence among the three countries.
Agreement Creates Joint Defence Mechanisms
Under the agreement, an attack against one signatory will be treated as an attack against all. The arrangement therefore creates a stronger collective security framework.
Turkiye’s Defence Ministry said the three countries will establish political and military mechanisms. The alliance will also expand cooperation between their defence industries.
The agreement represents a significant development in relations among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. Officials expect closer coordination to strengthen regional security and strategic cooperation.
