PIMS Doctors Rally Against Soaring Fuel Costs in Islamabad
Members of the Young Doctors Association staged a protest at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad on Saturday against the recent increase in petroleum prices.
The demonstration brought together resident doctors and medical staff who expressed anger over rising living expenses and growing economic pressure. Protesters said the sharp increase in fuel prices has made daily life extremely difficult for both healthcare workers and ordinary citizens.
Doctors participating in the protest carried placards and raised slogans demanding immediate financial relief from the government. They argued that continuously rising petrol prices are directly increasing transportation costs, utility bills, and food expenses.
Several doctors stated that inflation has now reached a level where many young medical professionals struggle to survive despite working long hours in hospitals.
Doctors Say Inflation Is Affecting Healthcare Workers and Patients
Speaking to the media during the protest, representatives of the Young Doctors Association said the latest fuel price increase had severely affected salaried workers across the country.
One resident doctor said medical professionals are now facing a serious financial crisis. He explained that doctors are struggling to balance professional responsibilities with personal financial challenges.
According to protesters, the cost of commuting to hospitals has increased sharply in recent months. In addition, prices of groceries, electricity, and essential household items continue rising faster than salaries.
Doctors warned that junior medical staff working in Islamabad are under severe economic stress. Many claimed that maintaining a reasonable standard of living in the federal capital has become increasingly difficult.
Protesters also stated that patients are equally suffering from the inflation crisis. Higher transportation costs and rising prices of daily essentials are making medical treatment more expensive for ordinary families.
Young Doctors Demand Salary Increase and Warn of Wider Protests
The Young Doctors Association demanded an urgent increase in salaries for healthcare workers. Protest leaders urged the government to revise basic pay structures to match rising inflation and fuel costs.
Doctors argued that the current salary system no longer reflects the actual cost of living in Pakistan. They also warned that continued economic pressure could affect the morale and performance of healthcare professionals.
Association leaders said the โwhite-collar classโ is facing extreme financial hardship due to inflation. They stressed that immediate economic relief is necessary to prevent further frustration among salaried workers.
The organization also warned that the protest movement could expand beyond Islamabad if authorities fail to address their concerns. According to YDA representatives, demonstrations may soon take place in other major cities across the country.
The latest protest comes as fuel prices in Pakistan continue reaching record highs following recent increases in petroleum levies and taxes. Economists warn that higher fuel prices are expected to increase inflation further through transportation and supply chain costs.
Public frustration over rising living expenses has also intensified on social media, where many citizens continue criticizing the growing burden of inflation on households.
The government has not yet announced any response to the demands raised by the protesting doctors.
