Yorkshire Wildlife Park has closed for the weekend after a tiger seriously injured a man who entered its enclosure near Doncaster.
South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to the park on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports that a man had entered the tiger enclosure. The animal then attacked him, causing serious injuries.
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said emergency teams were called at 1:33 pm BST.
Two land ambulances, an air ambulance and a doctor were sent to the scene. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots during the emergency response.
Videos shared online appeared to show a man lying on the ground while a tiger remained close to him. Black screens were later placed around the enclosure.
The wildlife park said emergency procedures were activated immediately.
Officials also confirmed that they were working with police and other authorities to determine how the incident happened.
The park will remain closed for the rest of the weekend. Management said the safety of visitors, staff and animals remains its highest priority.
Police confirmed that the tiger stayed inside the enclosure throughout the incident.
Authorities said there was no wider danger to members of the public. Visitors were evacuated while officers continued their investigation.
