Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for shooting down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Marib province. The group said its forces used a locally manufactured air-to-air missile to target the Saudi warplane.
According to the Houthi statement, the fighter jet was conducting military operations in support of Saudi-backed forces in the area.
Houthis Claim Saudi Fighter Jet Downed
A Houthi military spokesman announced the claim on social media on Wednesday.
“The Yemeni Armed Forces, with Allah’s aid and grace, succeeded in shooting down a Saudi F15 fighter jet while it was carrying out hostile operations in support of its military mobilisations in the airspace of Marib province, using a locally made air-to-air missile,” the spokesman said.
The statement did not provide further details about the aircraft or its crew.
The Houthis also accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out around 450 strikes in Yemen.
However, the claim of the fighter jet being shot down has not been independently confirmed in the information provided.
Conflict Continues to Escalate
The latest claim comes amid renewed military tensions involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
Marib remains strategically important because of its location and energy resources. The province has also remained a key area of conflict during Yemen’s prolonged war.
