The Yemeni army has claimed that its forces neutralized 1,747 Houthi members during 1,122 military operations across several fronts. Military spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili announced the figures on Monday as government forces intensified their campaign against the group.
According to al-Nuzaili, the operations targeted Houthi artillery and rocket-launcher positions, defensive fortifications, supply routes and reinforcements. Government forces also struck command structures and command-and-control centres during the campaign.
Operations Target Houthi Military Positions
The military carried out operations across Saada, Al-Jawf and Taiz provinces, as well as areas along Yemen’s western coast. Furthermore, the forces used warplanes, drones, artillery, missiles, rocket launchers and sniper units during the operations.
Al-Nuzaili also claimed that the campaign destroyed or disabled 364 military vehicles, equipment and transport or supply assets. However, the figures released by the Yemeni military could not be independently verified, while the Houthis had not immediately responded to the claims.
Government Launches Wider Military Campaign
The latest announcement came a day after Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced comprehensive military operations against the Houthis. He ordered armed forces, security forces and other military formations to retake territory controlled by the group.
Meanwhile, Yemen has faced prolonged conflict since the Houthis seized Sanaa and expanded their control across several provinces in 2014. Saudi Arabia later led a coalition that intervened in 2015 to support Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
Fighting has intensified since July, with the conflict escalating further in September. The Houthis expanded their presence around Mokha and advanced toward Mayyun Island near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
