Yemen’s government vowed to restore state authority as its forces recaptured strategic positions from the Houthis in southwestern Taiz.
Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said shifting battle lines would not weaken government efforts to regain control across Yemen.
During consultations with Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani and senior military leaders, Al-Alimi said temporary battlefield changes would not determine national battles.
He stressed that the government must combine military, economic and political resources to regain the initiative despite changes on the battlefield.
Taiz forces launch counteroffensive
Government troops recaptured high-ground positions overlooking the Jardad area in Al-Shamayatayn district after repelling Houthi infiltration attempts.
The state-run Saba news agency reported that troops later advanced toward Ghayl Bani Omar, a major frontline area.
The forces seized military equipment and inflicted casualties on Houthi fighters during the advance.
Meanwhile, fighter jets carried out several strikes against Houthi gatherings and supply routes in Dhubab, Al-Waziiyah and Hayfan districts.
Another strike targeted Houthi fighters in Al-Afirah, destroying several vehicles and detonating an ammunition depot.
The strike reportedly killed at least 10 Houthi fighters.
The counteroffensive comes as fighting intensifies across Yemen, with government forces also advancing in Al-Jawf and repelling attacks around Marib.
The Houthis claimed control of coastal areas and strategic Red Sea islands, including Perim Island near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
