Actor Yashma Gill has called for better education and stronger social values after a pregnant woman in Gujranwala allegedly faced violence over her unborn child’s sex. Gill shared her views on Instagram while commenting on reports about the incident.
The actor said education should teach children empathy, morality and respect alongside academic subjects. She also explained that a child’s biological sex is determined by the father’s sperm, not the mother.

Gill said schools should make basic manners, humanity and empathy an important part of their curriculum. She questioned whether failures in the legal system, society, upbringing or a combination of factors contribute to such incidents.
The actor also referred to religious teachings and said their proper interpretation could help raise compassionate children. She urged society to shape young minds so violence does not become normalised or mistaken for authority.
Police Arrest Suspect In Gujranwala Case
The reported incident occurred on September 27 in Gujranwala’s WAPDA Town area. Police arrested a man accused of assaulting his five-month-pregnant wife after an ultrasound reportedly indicated that they were expecting a daughter.
According to the FIR, the accused, identified as Tayyab Mannan, allegedly pressured his wife to have an abortion because he did not want another daughter. The FIR states that an argument over the issue escalated, leaving the woman injured and requiring treatment at Gujranwala Civil Hospital.
Police registered the case under Sections 337 and 354 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media showed the woman describing the alleged assault and her husband’s reaction.
Gill condemned the reported violence and stressed that mothers do not determine the biological sex of their children. She called for greater respect for women and said their dignity should never become negotiable.
