Xi Jinping Calls for Stable China-US Relations After Summit With Trump

Chinese President Xi Jinping described relations between China and the United States as entering a “new positioning” after his summit with US President Donald Trump in Beijing. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, both leaders agreed to build a constructive and strategically stable relationship focused on cooperation with measured competition. Xi stated that the two countries should maintain a balance where cooperation remains the main priority while differences stay manageable. He added that stable ties between Beijing and Washington could promote global peace and economic stability in the coming years.
During the meeting, Xi encouraged broader cooperation in trade, health, agriculture, tourism, law enforcement, and people-to-people exchanges. He emphasized that both countries would benefit from collaboration and warned that confrontation could harm not only China and the US but also the wider international community. Xi also highlighted recent progress in trade discussions after negotiators from both countries held talks in South Korea. He reiterated that trade wars produce no winners and stressed that equal-footed consultation remains the best path for resolving economic disputes.
Meanwhile, Chinese state media reported that both sides agreed to continue building a stable framework for bilateral relations over the next three years and beyond. Xi described the proposed relationship as one based on positive cooperation, moderate competition, manageable differences, and long-term peace.
Despite emphasizing cooperation, Xi warned the United States to exercise “utmost caution” regarding Taiwan. He cautioned that mishandling the Taiwan issue could lead to dangerous tensions or conflict between the two powers. The leaders also discussed the Russia-Ukraine war, Middle East tensions, and security issues on the Korean Peninsula. Trump attended the summit alongside senior US officials and executives from major American companies, including Tesla, Apple, Nvidia, and Boeing.
