A 19-year-old college student from Pollachi, Coimbatore, has allegedly stolen gold jewelry from her friend’s home and used the proceeds to buy her boyfriend a motorcycle.
The accused, identified as R. Joy Princy, is reportedly a second-year B.Com. student at a local government arts college.
According to police, Princy visited her friend’s residence on August 16 last year. During the visit, she allegedly took nine sovereigns of gold jewelry hidden inside a beer bottle at the house.
She reportedly sold the stolen jewelry and received around Rs2.5 lakh from the sale.
Student Allegedly Buys Motorcycle for Boyfriend
Police said Princy allegedly used the money to purchase a motorcycle worth approximately Rs2.5 lakh for her boyfriend.
The alleged theft came to light after Tamil Selvan, the father of Princy’s friend, reported the missing jewelry to Pollachi North Police.
Following the complaint, police began investigating the case and questioned Princy about the stolen jewelry.
During questioning, she allegedly confessed to taking the gold, selling it and using the money to purchase the motorcycle for her boyfriend.
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the motorcycle’s purchase.
Police Search for Boyfriend
According to reports, Princy’s boyfriend has allegedly gone into hiding after the incident came to light.
Police are searching for him as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are also working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the motorcycle’s acquisition and determine whether the boyfriend was aware of the alleged theft.
Further investigation is underway, while police continue efforts to locate the boyfriend and establish all facts related to the case.
