Former heavyweight champion remembers ex-partner as immensely talented while asking for privacy for their daughter and grieving family
GREENVILLE: Former world heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko has paid an emotional tribute to actress Hayden Panettiere following her death at 36, describing her as an important part of his life who “left this world far too soon”.
Panettiere, best known for Heroes and Nashville, died Sunday in Greenville, South Carolina. Authorities said investigators found no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
Emergency crews responded to reports of cardiac arrest and attempted to resuscitate her. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy found no signs of trauma, while officials have not yet confirmed the cause of death.
Klitschko Says Family Facing Profound Grief
Klitschko, who shares 11-year-old daughter Kaya with Panettiere, said her death had left the family in profound shock and grief.
He praised Panettiere’s talent and successful acting career while acknowledging the pressures she faced within the entertainment industry. Moreover, he said their separation could never erase their shared experiences or her importance as Kaya’s mother.
Klitschko and Panettiere met around 2009, became engaged in 2013 and welcomed Kaya in 2014. Although they later separated, Panettiere remained involved in their daughter’s life.
The former boxing champion said he would ensure Kaya remembers her mother with respect and requested privacy for the family.
Hollywood Stars Remember Panettiere’s Talent
Meanwhile, tributes have poured in from Panettiere’s former colleagues.
Nashville co-star Connie Britton remembered her as someone “bursting with brilliance,” while Heroes actor Masi Oka praised her spirit, talent and joyful energy.
Panettiere began acting as a child before achieving wider fame through Heroes and Nashville. Her film credits included Remember the Titans, Raising Helen and the Scream franchise.
Her final major screen appearance came in Sleepwalker, released earlier this year.
