KARACHI: The father of slain businessman and IBA student Mir Raza Ali has refused to accept a newly reconstituted medical board for his son’s exhumation.
Mir Hussain questioned the legitimacy of the five-member panel, claiming authorities changed its composition without consulting the family. He said the family had spent an entire day at court to obtain the official judicial order governing the exhumation.
According to Mir Hussain, the family will follow only the original court-approved notification. He rejected any subsequent notification that changed the medical board without their knowledge.
Father Questions Medical Board Changes
Mir Hussain said authorities bypassed the family while restructuring the panel. He expressed concern over the timing and circumstances surrounding the changes.
He also questioned whether the altered panel could conduct the exhumation under the original judicial order. Furthermore, he raised concerns about whether influential individuals could be protected through the sudden change.
“We went to court, we stood there all day, and we received the official court order detailing the original panel,” Mir Hussain told reporters. “Who authenticated this new notification? We will not allow them to proceed under this altered setup. Someone powerful is being shielded.”
The grieving father firmly opposed allowing the newly appointed team to disturb his son’s grave. He also urged the media and public to support efforts to establish the truth.
Background of Mir Raza Ali Case
Mir Raza Ali disappeared on July 28 after leaving his residence in PECHS. Authorities recovered his decomposed body the following day in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
He had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Police initially considered suicide after citing alleged losses from cryptocurrency trading.
However, Mir Raza’s family has rejected that account. They maintain that he was kidnapped, tortured and murdered.
A judicial magistrate previously ordered an exhumation and fresh post-mortem. The order followed Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed’s identification of 14 major flaws in the initial post-mortem report. The exhumation remains stalled as the family rejects the altered medical board. Meanwhile, the dispute has intensified questions surrounding the investigation and the circumstances of Mir Raza’s death.
