Sparco Plaza in Islamabadโs Gulberg Greens has officially been declared a sub-jail for people arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The Islamabad Chief Commissioner issued an order bringing the facility under the new status.
The decision means FIA detainees can now be held at the designated facility. The move also establishes specific responsibilities for managing security, prisoners and official records.
The notification took effect immediately after its issuance. Authorities have also assigned responsibility for the facilityโs administration and security.
Sparco Plaza Designated for FIA Detainees
The Islamabad Chief Commissioner issued a formal notification declaring Sparco Plaza a sub-jail. The facility will be used to hold people detained by the FIA.
Under the order, the director general of the FIA will oversee security arrangements at the sub-jail. This responsibility includes maintaining security for both the facility and the prisoners held there.
The notification also outlines requirements for maintaining official records. An officer of Grade 17 or above will be responsible for keeping the sub-jailโs records.
The arrangement establishes a formal administrative structure for the facility. It also places responsibility for security and documentation within the relevant authorities.
Order Takes Immediate Effect
The notification declaring Sparco Plaza a sub-jail has come into force with immediate effect. This means the facility can operate under its new designation without a separate waiting period.
The decision provides the FIA with a designated location for holding detainees. It also formalises the responsibilities of officials overseeing the facility.
Security arrangements will remain a key responsibility under the order. The FIA director general will oversee these arrangements, while a senior officer will maintain the facilityโs official records.
Sparco Plaza Was Originally Planned as a Mixed-Use Project
Sparco Plaza, also known as Sparco Twin Towers, was originally constructed as a mixed-use development. The project was designed to include both commercial and residential facilities.
The building is located in Gulberg Greens, Islamabad, an area that has seen considerable development in recent years.
Its designation as a sub-jail now gives the property a different operational purpose. The facility will serve as a holding location for FIA detainees under the Chief Commissionerโs notification.
The new arrangement also places the building under specific security and administrative requirements. With the order already in effect, relevant authorities are expected to manage the facility according to the responsibilities outlined in the notification.
