KHUSHAB: A Class 10 female student is feared dead after jumping into the Chenab River following disappointment over her examination results in Rangpur, Noorpur Thal Tehsil of Khushab district. Rescue teams and police continued an extensive search operation on Friday.
The 15-year-old student, identified as Javaria, daughter of Muhammad Arshad, was a resident of Rangpur. According to Rescue 1122, authorities launched the operation after personal belongings believed to belong to the student were found near the riverbank close to Kona Primary School in Basti Belkana. Subsequently, Rescue 1122 dispatched an ambulance from the Rangpur Rescue Station and informed the police control room.
Rescue officials immediately began a coordinated search using boats while emergency personnel collected evidence and spoke with eyewitnesses and family members. Meanwhile, police also started an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities said they would examine all available information before reaching any conclusions.
Officials stated that the search operation remains challenging because of difficult river conditions. Furthermore, the search area covers a broad section of the Chenab River with a strong water current, making rescue efforts more complicated. Despite these difficulties, emergency teams continue searching for the missing student.
Police urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation remains underway. Authorities said they will provide further updates as the search progresses and additional information becomes available. If confirmed, the incident would highlight the importance of emotional support for students facing academic pressure.
