A young woman was allegedly killed by her father and relatives in Khanewal after she married a man of her choice. The incident has raised fresh concerns about violence linked to marriage choices in Punjab.
The victim, identified as Iqra, had married Muhammad Sohail three days before her alleged murder. Her family reportedly opposed the marriage and later brought her back to their home.
According to initial details, the incident occurred in Chak No. 170, Tens R, within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station Khanewal.
Father Allegedly Lured Daughter Back Home
Iqra’s father, Falak Sher, allegedly brought her to the family home by claiming that he wanted to give her an honorable send-off.
However, police said Falak Sher allegedly killed his daughter with the involvement of his two brothers and son.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged killing are now under investigation. Authorities are working to establish what happened after Iqra returned to her family home.
The case has highlighted the serious risks women can face when families oppose their marriage decisions. Such incidents also raise broader concerns about violence committed in the name of family honour.
Murder Case Registered Against Family Members
Police registered a murder case against Falak Sher and his three sons following a complaint from Iqra’s husband, Muhammad Sohail.
Authorities arrested Falak Sher after registering the case. Police are expected to investigate the allegations against the other suspects and determine their alleged involvement.
Meanwhile, Rescue personnel shifted Iqra’s body to the district hospital. Doctors will conduct a post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.
The examination could provide important evidence regarding the circumstances and cause of her death.
