KARACHI: A Karachi civil court has ordered Civil Hospital Karachi to pay Rs6.5 million in damages to a woman who suffered serious health complications after surgery. Senior Civil Judge South ruled in favour of Najma Rizwan, who had filed a compensation case against the hospital.
The court directed the hospital administration to pay the awarded amount within 60 days. The ruling followed arguments from both sides regarding the womanโs treatment and subsequent health problems.
Woman Reportedly Developed Complications After Surgery
According to the plaintiffโs lawyer, Najma Rizwan was admitted to Civil Hospital Karachi on November 3, 2015, for childbirth. She underwent surgery at the hospital and delivered her baby during the procedure. Doctors discharged her from the hospital on November 6. However, her health reportedly began deteriorating shortly after she returned home.
The woman experienced persistent abdominal pain and swelling in her body. Her condition prompted her to seek treatment at another medical facility.
According to her lawyer, doctors at the other facility found that the hospital had performed an incorrect surgical procedure.
Court Hears Medical Negligence Claim
The plaintiffโs counsel argued that negligence during the surgery caused Najma Rizwan to develop additional health problems. The lawyer also told the court that she endured prolonged physical distress following the procedure.
The case focused on the alleged medical negligence and its impact on the womanโs health. The plaintiff sought compensation for the difficulties she reportedly experienced after the surgery.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court accepted the plaintiffโs claim.
Civil Hospital Karachi Ordered to Pay Damages
Senior Civil Judge South directed Civil Hospital Karachi to pay Rs6.5 million in damages to Najma Rizwan. The court also set a 60-day deadline for the hospital administration to make the payment.
The ruling brings a long-running compensation claim to a conclusion for the plaintiff. It also highlights the legal consequences that can follow when patients allege serious harm from medical treatment.
For Najma Rizwan, the courtโs decision provides financial compensation after years of dealing with the reported consequences of the surgery. The order now requires the hospital to comply with the courtโs direction within the specified period.
