Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport has inaugurated its newly reconstructed main runway 07L/25R. The ceremony marked a major milestone for Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure.
Secretary of Defence Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Ali formally inaugurated the upgraded runway. Senior civil and military officials attended the ceremony.
Among them were Additional Secretary of Defence Major General Qaiser Suleman and Pakistan Airports Authority Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed. Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority Director General Nadir Shafi Dar also participated.
Moreover, senior officials from works, development, and airport management departments attended the event.
Runway Meets International Standards
The Pakistan Airports Authority confirmed that the upgraded runway meets Code 4F classification standards. Therefore, it can now accommodate large aircraft, including the Airbus A380.
Authorities completed the reconstruction project within 18 months. Furthermore, the project complied with International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 14 standards.
Officials stated that the project concluded without delays or cost overruns. Additionally, no claims or accidents were reported during construction.
Consequently, the development reflects strong project management and technical execution.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Aviation Capacity
During the ceremony, the defence secretary emphasized the importance of the project. He stated that the runway demonstrates Pakistan’s ability to complete major infrastructure projects according to international benchmarks.
He also praised the leadership of the Pakistan Airports Authority. In addition, he commended engineers and technical teams for completing the project within the approved timeline and budget.
As a result, the upgraded runway strengthens operational capacity at one of Pakistan’s busiest airports. It also enhances readiness to handle increased international air traffic.
Recognition of Services
At the event, officials exchanged commemorative shields to mark the occasion. Organizers presented shields to the secretary of defence and the additional secretary.
Similarly, the secretary awarded honorary shields to the director generals of both aviation authorities and other officials. These awards recognized their contributions to the successful completion of the project.
