A westerly wind system swept across Balochistan late Sunday night, bringing rainfall to numerous districts, the Meteorological Department reported. Quetta and Pishin recorded six millimeters of rain each, Sibi saw four millimeters, Ziarat received two millimeters, and Dalbandin, Turbat, and Nokundi measured one millimeter each.
Over the past 24 hours, additional rainfall was observed in Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Musakhel, Mastung, Kalat, Turbat, Chagai, Gwadar, and Kharan. These showers mark the continuation of a westerly system affecting both central and southern districts.
Snowfall Expected in Mountainous Areas
Meteorologists warned that snowfall is likely in high-altitude regions including Ziarat, Qila Abdullah, Kan Mehtarzai, and Chaman. Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to take precautions, as icy conditions may affect transportation and daily activities.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is forecast across northern, central, and southern districts throughout today, with intermittent showers expected to continue until the westerly system moves eastward.
Temperature Fluctuations Across Balochistan
The recent weather system has caused temperatures to drop across the province. Ziarat reported a minimum of minus 2ยฐC, Kalat recorded minus 1ยฐC, and Quetta dropped to 2ยฐC. Turbat experienced a relatively warmer climate with a minimum of 16ยฐC, reflecting regional variations in rainfall and altitude.
The Meteorological Department emphasized that residents should remain alert for sudden temperature changes, especially in high-altitude areas prone to snowfall.
Advisory for Residents and Travelers
Authorities advised locals to remain cautious during the ongoing weather system. Roads in mountainous regions may become slippery due to snow and rain, increasing the risk of accidents. Farmers were also urged to take protective measures to safeguard crops against potential rainfall and frost.
Additionally, the department recommended keeping updated with local weather forecasts and warnings, as the westerly system may bring further rainfall and snowfall over the next 24 to 48 hours.
