A special Pakistan Super League (PSL) showcase held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London brought together cricket enthusiasts, but it was a witty comment by Wasim Akram that grabbed all the attention. The event, attended by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, highlighted the growth of T20 leagues worldwide — with Akram adding his trademark humour to the discussion.
Akram Praises PSL’s Short Format, Takes Playful Dig at IPL
While explaining how different leagues operate, Akram praised the PSL for being short, fast, and easy to follow. He then delivered a playful jab at the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying:
“The best thing about PSL is that it lasts for 34 days or a bit more next year. It’s not three months long like other leagues. Bachay baday ho jatay hain, woh league khatam hi nahi hoti.”
The humorous remark instantly became the most memorable moment of the event, drawing laughs both at the venue and across social media.
Akram reminded fans that he has been part of the IPL as a commentator and in coaching roles, especially in the early seasons. However, he pointed out that the IPL has grown significantly longer over time.
IPL vs PSL: A Big Difference in Duration
The IPL 2025 season is scheduled to run from March 22 to June 3, making it almost a three-month-long tournament. With around 74 matches, including league games and knockouts, the IPL is among the world’s longest cricket leagues.
In comparison, the PSL is much shorter and more compact. With only six teams, the tournament usually lasts just over a month, making it easier for fans to follow without fatigue. The next PSL edition is set to begin in May 2026.
Akram’s light-hearted comment has once again sparked debate among cricket fans over which league offers the better viewing experience — a fast, sharp PSL or the marathon spectacle of the IPL.
