Vivo appears determined to expand its flagship lineup despite uncertainty surrounding Oppo’s next premium smartphone. The upcoming Vivo X500 Ultra reportedly remains in development, with a launch expected in March or April 2027.
According to recent industry leaks, the company continues refining the device ahead of its anticipated release. The latest information suggests that Vivo has not changed its development schedule.
Digital Chat Station, an industry tipster, reported that the Vivo X500 Ultra is undergoing routine refinements. Meanwhile, Vivo Vice President and Product Vice President Huang Tao previously indicated a similar launch window.
Huang confirmed that the smartphone follows its regular development cycle and should arrive between March and April next year. Furthermore, he indicated that the device would introduce significant camera improvements over the Pro Max model.
Vivo X500 Ultra Could Bring Major Camera Improvements
Vivo appears to be positioning the X500 Ultra as a camera-focused flagship. Huang Tao previously highlighted professional content creators as a key audience for the upcoming smartphone.
The company reportedly plans to deliver substantial camera upgrades compared with the X500 Pro Max. However, Vivo has not revealed the final camera specifications or confirmed the hardware configuration.
Vivo introduced its X500 series in China without an Ultra variant. Consequently, the X500 Pro Max currently represents the most advanced model in the lineup.
The Pro Max features MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset and an 8,000mAh battery. It also supports 90W fast charging.
Vivo X500 Ultra Expected Specifications
Leaks suggest that Vivo could introduce several hardware upgrades with its upcoming Ultra flagship. The most notable possibility involves a switch to Qualcomm’s next-generation processor.
Processor and Display
According to reported testing details, Vivo is evaluating Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset for the X500 Ultra.
If confirmed, this would replace the MediaTek processor powering the X500 Pro Max. However, the final chipset selection remains unconfirmed.
The smartphone could also feature a large 6.85-inch BOE display with premium specifications, including:
- Display size: 6.85 inches
- Resolution: 2K+
- Refresh rate: 144Hz
- Display technology: LTPO
- Fingerprint sensor: 3D ultrasonic technology
Additionally, leaked details suggest a flat display with uniform bezels across all four sides. The panel could also feature large rounded corners.
These design choices would give the device a modern appearance while supporting a premium viewing experience.
Vivo X500 Ultra Camera Specifications Could Include a 200MP Sensor
Camera hardware could become the biggest selling point of the Vivo X500 Ultra. Current leaks suggest that the smartphone may feature three rear cameras.
The reported configuration includes two 50MP sensors and one 200MP sensor. Meanwhile, the front camera could feature a 50MP sensor for selfies and video calls.
However, the exact functions of the three rear cameras remain unclear. Earlier leaks also mentioned different 200MP telephoto sensor configurations.
These conflicting reports suggest that Vivo may still be testing different camera arrangements. Therefore, the final hardware could differ from the specifications currently circulating.
Nevertheless, the reported camera upgrades align with Huang Tao’s earlier comments about improving professional photography and content creation capabilities.
When Will Vivo X500 Ultra Launch?
Vivo reportedly plans to introduce the X500 Ultra in March or April 2027. Both the latest industry leak and Huang Tao’s earlier comments support this timeline.
For now, the smartphone appears to remain on schedule despite the absence of an official launch announcement.
Vivo has yet to confirm its processor, display specifications or camera configuration. Therefore, buyers will need to wait for further announcements before treating these leaked details as final.
If the reported upgrades materialise, the X500 Ultra could become a major addition to Vivo’s premium smartphone lineup next year.
